Black Widow’s Boobs: How Do They Work?
Black Widow’s anatomy defies gravity in the upcoming Avengers Confidential. Some people don’t seem to like me pointing that out.
Right, so, in case you haven’t heard, there’s a new Marvel/Sony Pictures animated film coming out called Avengers Confidential. It features the Punisher and Black Widow. Bit of a strange team-up, sure, but I was diggin’ the idea until I saw the trailer (which is now unavailable on YouTube).
I get the style, I’ve watched enough anime to understand that particularly strange brand of physics, but still… What is happening with Natasha’s boobs (especially at 0:23)? Why are they flopping about like a pair of deranged fish desperately clawing for freedom from her ribcage? It’s kind of hilarious, honestly. So I cracked a joke in the YouTube comments, which has now been voted up to top comment:
You’d think the animators would be consistent, after all– if Natasha’s chest has a life of its own, surely the Punisher’s junk should be dancing in his pants every time he takes a step. No big deal though, right? Crazy fictional boob physics are a pet peeve but not the end of the world. They’re just laughable. Well, they’re srs bsns to YouTube!
You’ll notice I had to politely correct someone who lacked an understanding of female anatomy. More so than the “typical American,” “never seen anime,” “calm your tits” and assumptions (“so you were looking at them too”– well, yeah, their bouncing took up half the screen), it’s the last comment that got to me.
I’m not the targeted demographic? I’m not the targeted demographic? And?
Marvel Entertainment and Sony animation cater exclusively to men, now? My say is invalidated because I’m a chick, even though I probably know the most about how Black Widow’s body works, even though I actually worked within Marvel for a semester of my life? Nice. I’m not surprised by these responses, but I have to admit I’m more miffed than I want to be.[xt_divider]Interesting note: I’m not alone in my sentiments, though I am the only target of backlash. I guess a female fan’s voice must be extra deserving of vitriol.
What a fun reminder to never, ever read the comments.
